Neighborhood lighting improvement

After much conversation and planning within the neighborhood and your HOA, our contract with Alabama Power Company to install our streetlights has been finalized.

This project was made possible and affordable with the previous installation of underground electrical utilities.  Installation was supposed to begin later this week, but actually started today. The spring break holiday and some unexpected health issues got us behind on our communication plans, so apologies for that.

The ~30 poles have been marked with stakes for your reference. The HOA will pay for the utility costs out of the general fund, and while no dues increase is necessary immediately, annual dues remaining at $50 is not expected. Annual dues will likely settle in the +/- $100/yr range. As a point of reference, they were at $75/year as recently as a few years ago and are consistently monitored with projected expenses and our cash reserves position.

If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact Joe Perez, Secretary of HOA and Utility Coordinator at 205-902-4516, 3476 Water Oak Drive.  You can also contact any other officer of the HOA.

    1. Adam, let’s wait until we have all lights installed and lighted. Our intent is to be as consistent and uniform as possible throughout the neighborhood. Once all lights have been installed, we will be taking feedback from neighbors with additional questions and comments . Meanwhile, don’t hesitate to contact me directly.

      1. Please consider different bulb colors. Similar to highlands would be a vast improvement. I don’t mind lights as I agree about safety for drivers and pedestrians alike. However the LED is causing too much light pollution and is a distraction from the natural ambiance of our neighborhood.

    2. I was told to contact Alabama power. They said they would do something and have not. They keep asking us who selected the color and we said the HOA.

      1. Good morning, Rachel,
Thanks for your feedback. We have reached out to APCO once again to be certain that the only bulb offered in our streetlight fixtures is the bright white bulb that is currently installed.
We will certainly replace the bulb with another less bright bulb in the event there is one available. Most comments we receive are very positive with the installation of our lights – with the main theme being the lights are too bright. Thanks again, Rachel.

    1. Thanks, Terry, I’m glad you like them. They add a great deal of safety and security for all of our neighbors. I’m anxious to have all 31 installed and lighted.

  1. Really like having the lights but would prefer the softer lighting like that in the Countrywood Highlands area.

    1. Thank you, Grady,
I’m glad that you are enjoying the lights. APCO tells us this new fixture has only one bulb intensity. I prefer our brightness to the orange glow of the CWH lights!

    2. Good morning, Grady, I agree – we have reached out to the provider, APCO, again to determine if we have an option. If we do, I assure you we will replace the bulb – most comments are that our neighbors are very receptive with the lights but would prefer a less bright bulb.
